I am a member of the Jacksonville Herpetological Society and this is where we have our monthly meetings. The way we pay for our meeting room at the Museum is to put on a reptile exhibit once a month. This is what we call our MVP program (Museum Volunteer Program).  This is a great experience and a lot of fun. We get to talk to people about our club and about our reptiles.  We answer questions about our reptiles and I let the kids hold a real live SNAKE.

Black Racer Presentation   At our March 6, 2002 meeting a lady came up to me and said that someone had told her that I had a Black Racer that I was going to release.  She told me that she was the Curator of the Museum and they had just lost their Black Racer that they'd had for a long time. She asked me if I would donate it to the Museum if I wasn't going to keep it. I called her a couple of days later and told her that I would donate it to the Museum.  The next Saturday was our MVP program so I took the Black Racer and presented it to the Curator of the Museum. Donated Black Racer   This is the Black Racer that I donated to the Museum.  I only had it for a few weeks and it was eating mice and was pretty tame.  It was about 4 feet long and it has never biten me.  I sent this picture to a friend and he emailed me back and said, "WOW!  How many hits did you take trying to get that picture.  Now this is a fun hobby.
After the presentation of the Black Racer some of the members of our club asked the Curator if she would take the Indigo snake out for us to see. This snake is 10 years old and about 8 feet long. The Indigo is an endangered species.  I have never seen one in the wild.  I asked her if I could have my picture made holding it.  She said YES,   (WOW)  that this would be my payment for the Black Racer.  This is one beautiful animal.  He is awesome.  You can even feel his heart beat.  This was a great day for me, one that I will never forget.
